Otis Archer Hood is arrested.

The head of the Communist Party of Massachusetts, he is arrested at his home at 33 Fayston Street. State troopers wait for more than a half hour before removing Archer from his home until his wife returns from shopping to care for the couple’s two children. Hood subsequently refuses to answer questions by the Legislative Commission Against communism at a State House hearing, invoking the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article 12 of the Massachusetts Constitution.
